Ohio School Boards Association: 2025 President-Elect

A Moment of Honor and Responsibility: Becoming OSBA President-Elect
What an awesome honor! To stand before a room full of delegates, who voted unanimously to elect me as the 2025 President-Elect of the Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA), was more than I could have imagined. This momentous occasion was made even more special with my family in attendance, including my grandchildren—the next generation—who witnessed firsthand the importance of dedication, service, and leadership.
The OSBA held its annual Capital Conference in Columbus on November 10th, where over 6,500 attendees gathered for one of the nation’s premier education conventions. This three-day event provided invaluable opportunities for learning, sharing, and networking, featuring nationally acclaimed keynote speakers, breakout sessions, and seminars designed to help school districts find creative solutions to public education’s most pressing challenges.
The Delegate Assembly and My Election
On November 11th, the second day of the conference, OSBA hosted its annual Delegate Assembly—a cornerstone of the association’s governance structure. Each school board across the state appoints a delegate to this assembly, with the responsibility of voting on key matters. This year, as the Nominating Committee presented its report, the delegates cast their votes, and I was deeply humbled to be elected as President-Elect.
The role of President-Elect is a profound responsibility that extends beyond simply preparing to assume the presidency. It includes duties that directly impact the future of OSBA, such as:
Assisting the president and serving in their absence when necessary.
Assuming the office of president in case of vacancy due to term expiration, resignation, or other circumstances.
Participating in the annual business meeting to guide the association’s direction.
Chairing the Federal Relations Network (FRN) and the Legislative Platform Committee.
Serving as a trustee of the OSBA Legal Assistance Fund and the OSBA Insurance Trust.
Attending key conferences, including the COSSBA Leadership and Advocacy Conferences.
Engaging with Ohio’s education management organizations and regional OSBA conferences.
Carrying out additional duties as assigned by the Board of Trustees.
A Commitment to Service and Advocacy
The OSBA Delegate Assembly, through a structured and democratic process, ensures that the association continues to advocate for policies that improve education across Ohio. Delegates not only elect key leadership positions but also amend the OSBA Constitution and Bylaws, determine policies, and adopt resolutions to shape the legislative platform.
Knowing the weight of these responsibilities, I am both honored and eager to serve in this capacity. This role is not just about leadership; it is about advocacy, collaboration, and ensuring that Ohio’s public education system remains strong and forward-thinking.
Looking Ahead
As I embark on this journey, I am committed to working alongside my fellow board members, educational leaders, and communities to ensure that every student in Ohio has access to quality education. My goal is to foster collaboration, inspire innovation, and advocate for policies that benefit students, educators, and families across the state.
I am deeply grateful for this opportunity and for the trust placed in me. To my colleagues, mentors, and supporters—thank you. To my family, especially my grandchildren who witnessed this achievement—you are my inspiration. The future of education is bright, and together, we will continue to make a meaningful impact.
